Fun Baby blankets

SO sweet!!! She kind of makes me Baby Hungry!! I LOVE those lips!!
(and check out that ruffle bum! Don't worry I have a tutorial coming on one of these babies!I just made one for a friend and they are super easy)

This is one of my friends darling angel modeling a Rosies blanket. She wanted a car canopy and then decided why not some blankets to match too, and can I just say I could not get enough of these blankets!! They turned out so so cute!! (Not quite as cute as the baby but cute!) Seriously the fabric you choose is KEY to any project! I don't think she could have chosen cuter prints. For one of her blankets she decided to use a bright pink terry cloth material (like a bath towell) At first I thought kind of weird, and now I am obsessed with the idea. I love that if baby spits up or spills the blanket soaks it right up and then you just throw it in the wash, and the bright pink just made the whole blanket!!

(This fabric line is from Michael Miller and I am pretty sure she ordered hers through an etsy shop)

These pictures don't even give them justice because the lighting is all off. So just trust me!

I am kind of loving this office craft space!! This is the perfect compromise if you just don't have the room for a full on craft room. I actually have a good friend/neighbor who turned her walk in closet into her own little craft space as well. She has a desk, lap top, and TV all inside with all of her supplies right there. I LOVE IT! Sometimes I want to kick a kid out of one of their rooms so I can have my own craft room and then I am reminded of how very selfish that would be!! DANG KIDS!!

Mostly I love how really the hubster would get ZERO say on what goes on in this closet, Colors wall paper EVERYTHING would solely be up to me!

Anthropology Inspired curtains

I have had the fabric for these babies since August and basically I have just been really lazy and have not felt like sitting down and sewing them! Well I finally did it! I finished!!! And I LOVE THEM!!! They just complete my little Madi's room. I can't stop looking at them, I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! I basically sewed 12 ruffle strips to a pair of $7.00 Ikea curtains that I had bought. I didn't do a tutorial but if anyone does want to try these and is not sure where to start email me and I'll give you some pointers!!

Remember this fun print I made! So cute! (ps glad this is my blog so that I can say that everything is sooo cute without feeling like a big fat snot! I'm entitled to my own opinion right?)

PSS this is where I got the idea, but I kind of like mine better!! :)

Is it too late for Valentines?

My daughter loves any and ALL holidays. She thinks she needs to have a new outfit or some kind of party for like every day of the year!! So I know this is kind of old... But these would be great for birthday parties or even St. Patty's day coming up. This year for Valentines me and my little girly girl stayed up late poking holes in gum balls and stringing them up for her class room Valentines. I think they turned out absolutely darling!!! So easy and so fun! I got the idea from tip junkie and when I saw them I knew I would be making them. You can buy gum balls in bulk or by certain colors at different party stores. We lucked out and just raided Grandmas gum ball machine! Easy enough free and free!!!

The boys got blue green and yellow ones and the girls got the girly ones. The arrows were big tootsie roll cupid arrows for my Max man's joy school group.

Nothing like a new skirt from grandma to help celebrate the day of love! The necklace just made the whole outfit right??

The funnest part about being crafty

I think the funnest part about making stuff is seeing people use it or wear it! I love seeing people in the things I have made or seeing them smile or get excited when receiving the package! My favorite thing lately is whenever I have a friend get pregnant with a little girl. I get so excited because I start thinking about ruffles and lace! Remember the little swaparoo me and KATIE did? This is a pic of her darling little Hayden wearing my ruffle bum onesie. I think it's darling if I don't say so myself!

ahhh should I get prego just so I can ruffle up another little baby bum??? Naaah but it was a fun thought for a minute!

It's that time of year again where I am just kind of blah about blogging. But I was inspired today to sew and create, I kind of want to put my kids to bed right now at 4:21 and go sew!! But Unfortunately that is not going to happen and I have a yummy dinner planned with some of my best friends tonight so maybe tomorrow???

So a few months ago I got an email from KATIE! LOVE this girl!! Check out her gorgeous smile!

She asked if I was interested in doing a trade with her and of course I jumped all over that. I LOVE trades! Mostly I love getting special packages in the mail! So I was snooping around her blog and realized if we lived by each other we probably would be best friends! SHE IS DARLING! I love all of cute creations that she makes her girls, she is so talented. Also She has a daughter named Mia, (like me) and her nickname is Moo (like my Madi moo!) too funny!!

So I got busy and started up some stuff for her and she got busy and started some stuff for me and days later we spoiled each other!! She sent me the CUTEST hair clips silk flower ones and a way cute felt flower one. And also the cutest Valentines necklace for my girl ever! So cute!

I love Katie's sewing but I am dying over her jewelry right now! Seriously she is a doll go check her out, you won't be disappointed!!

A Valentine treat for your Honey.

Ok, so this is SOOOOO old!! about ten years old to be exact!! I made this pillow as a gift for Valentines day for my hubby (but at that point he was my almost fianc'e) . I was inspired by this fabric that I had found at Walmart in my small college town. I loved the whole "How do I love thee let me count the ways" thing so I went with it and began thinking up all of the ways I loved my man! The fun part about this pillow was that I re-read the list for the first time in ten years the other day and it reminded me of all the little things that I loved and still love about my honey! And for the last couple of days I have re-noticed all of those little things that made me fall in love with him way back then! I know this is so cheesy! But fun!

So I typed up my reasons and printed them on transferable iron on paper. and then Ironed it onto a white piece of square fabric. The pillow is 16X16 inch square and I just used a pillow form for the stuffing.

This such a simple project and would be great if you are a beginner sewer and just looking for a fun little project. All straight lines and really no way to mess up. And if you don't love the whole pillow idea just type your reasons up, print them out and frae them. That works to and is even easier then the pillow!!

So you know how your craft to do list is a mile long???? I see all of these ideas all of the time but I never find the time to try any of them. But not this time. The other night I actually stayed up a little late and played around. I bought this awesome old window from a yard sale last summer for $5.00 and it has been sitting in my basement. I thought of several ideas to use it for and just couldn't decide. Finally I just went for it and hung it on my wall. Then I decided to actually cross off something on my "crafts to try list" and I made a paper wreath. I have seen these done all kinds of ways using book pages but, I was having a terrible time deciding on what book I would want to use. (I am really weird and I feel like things hanging on my wall have to have some kind of meaning. It's really frusterating because that means I have a horrible time buying art and I LOVE FUNKY art.) Anyways so I decided to skip the book and use sheet music of music that I just love and that means so much to our family. I love the way it turned out, but I need to figure something out to put in the middle, and I also need my husband to stop laughing at it and asking what on earth it is.(obviously he is not a blogger!! :) )

So I just rolled my pages up and hot glued them all together. Some of my music was very old and already colored and textured but some I used a brown ink pad and distressed the edges. I also had an old wreath that I had bought from the dollar store forever ago so I glued it all to that. Easy Peasy.

Modge Podge never gets old

One of my little family's new years resolutions is to read our Book of Mormon more regularly as a family. I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and we are counselled to read this book daily. I love it and it is something that I am very passionate about. I wasn't sure how to get my kids equally as excited. So for family night a couple of weeks ago we talked to our kids about our beliefs and about how the Book of Mormon came to us. Before hand I had hidden these books and at the end the kids had to go on a hunt to find their books. I thought they would like them, but I HAD no idea how much they would love them. Even my little three year old just lugs his around and has to show everyone. They now see this book by their bed every night and beg us to read to them. Not sure how long this will last but I am gonna love it while it does.

I had seen these done for a girl's camp craft with little mini book of Mormons but I wanted the kids to have big sized ones and hard cover ones. For Max's I just modge podged scrapbook paper on and hot glued the red ric rack in for a book mark. Then I just printed off the label on my computer and inked the edges with an ink pad. For Madi's I actually painted the book!! yikes I hope that is ok. But I painted it and then modge podged some paper on and used stickers and ribbons to embellish. And I love them I love that they are personalized for my kids and that they are special for them. This can totally be done with any kind of book. Anything that you want to personalize, think their favorite stories, a song book, a journal, a drawing book, ANYTHING.

Mia's felt playhouse

Hello bloggers!! Long time no see!! Christmas is over and life is not as crazy so now it's time for me to craft a little bit. But first I had to post how Mia's playhouse turned out. I think I love it more then she does, but it is a lot of fun, her and Mr. Max love to cuddle up inside with their DVD player and hide away from me. So mission accomplished right??? so welcome to Mia's Pet Shop

The flowers come out and are stuffed with pipe cleaner so they are stiff and bendy all in one! The mail box opens and closes so her daily mail and other treats can be delivered. And of course the sign turns to open or closed depending on her mood.

I wanted her house to be very interactive I didn't want to sew a bunch of detail just for it to be stuck there just for looks. SO on this side she gets to learn and play. The turtle's letters come off so she can recognize the letters in her name both in capital and lowercase. The fish are to help her with counting. Behind each number is the correct number of dots so we can match the numbers, and the snakes scales are shapes that come on and off to help learn her shapes.

After her pets have gone to school they of course need to go to the beauty shop and get prettied up so this is the salon. Each pet has Velcro on their ears and neck so she can switch out the hair bows and collars to make her pets oh so pretty!

And then after getting all dolled up why not go for a yummy desert. Mia can choose what her pet feels like between cupcakes, ice cream, and chocolate dipped strawberries!

I loved this project!! way way easy! no seriously so easy!! lots of time and detail but very simple! It was so fun to be creative with it and add my own touches. I wish the whole felt playhouse concept was my idea but I got a lot of my inspiration for the whole thing from miss pretty pretty's etsy shop. The total cost of this project for me was right around $30.00.

Soooo worth it and soo much fun!

Dresser Makeover

First of all seriously, why are all the thrift stores jacking up their prices for all of their junk. Have you guys noticed that? It makes me so mad!! I looked everywhere for a cheap beat up dresser that I could buy for ten bucks max and every time I went to our stinking local thrift store the cheapest ones were like $60 bones! I was pretty ticked. Finally I asked my mother in law if she had an old one somewhere in her house and she did, why didn't I think of her in the first place. ***Note to self always check with the old people for free junk before paying a fortune for old stinky expensive junk.

I think the hardest part in any project is getting that vision. But once you have it watch out baby!!

I couldn't decide on my paper for the longest time.

And then I chose these. I LOVE the way this turned out. It is so bright, cheery , and fun!

I also love the paint color! Alot better then those green on green stripes right???

Next up curtains! I love love love what I am doing for the curtains, I just need to sew them dang it!!! And also a little old hamper makeover.

Garage Sale Chair

In July I bought this chair at a garage sale for $3.00. My original plan was to sand it and restain it a darker color and change out the fabric. It has just been sitting in my front room for months. The original fabric on it was so dirty and ugly. FINALLY this week I took the dang 10 minutes and switched out my fabric, I decided to keep the wood the same color and I really like the way it turned out. Not bad for $3.00!

give thanks center piece

This month for our little crafty get together with my ma and sisters, we took a tip from TIP JUNKIE and made these EASY fun "give thanks" center pieces!!!

Tip Junkies --->

This is a way easy cheap project. We cut circles from scrapbook paper, and then used sticker letters to spell out various sayings, such as give thanks, bounty, grattitude, gobble etc. You could really use whatever you wanted. My mom and one of my sisters even did sayings on both sides. The sticks are just painted wooden skewers like bbq skewers and the pumpkins were all free from an old patch! Turned out way cuter then I thought they would. I love having it on my table!

So fun huh?!? Mine is going to be "Mia's pet shop" for my little Mia's Christmas gift, problem is I have a bazillion little projects started!! I NEED to get all caught up so I can begin on all my Christmas projects!! If you want to make one homemadebyjill has an awesome tutorial on her blog HERE or Missprettypretty has patterns and whole houses that you can buy. They are about $200.00 bucks each (which really with all the hand work and little detail I don't blame her!) But there is no way I can fork out that kind of dough for one, so if its a hit and Mia uses is alot maybe ten years from now when she knows the truth about Mr. Clause I'll bill her for my time and efforts! Until then Mr. Clause enjoy being the hero once again!

It's actually really funny! A little over a year ago I thought I had this BRILLIANT idea! I was at the park with my kids and I sat there thinking I should start a craft blog. And on the blog I will post all of the crafts I do and instructions for them, then my kids and I will forever have record of what we have done, but also all of my friends can know how to make it all too! I seriously thought I was a genius! I seriously thought I was the only one who had ever thought of such an amazing concept! So I started it and then I started googling craft blogs and searching the Internet! GUESS I AM NOT THAT ORIGINAL with the whole crafting blog idea! HOLY CRAP! I could not believe how many people are out there crafting and blogging! It is insane! But I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I blog for a creative outlet from my everyday duties as a mama! I blog to create and to be inspired by everyone else's creations! The worst best part about a crafty blog is when you have this great creation idea in your head and you just haven't gotten to it yet and then days later you see it on someone elses blog!!! It ALWAYS amazes me because it makes me realize how we crafty insane ladies all think somewhat alike! It is really so weird I can see a perfect something in my head and then minutes later find a replica on another site and I think did I copy that or did we really both think up the same thing, more or less. Kind of Fun

I am pretty excited I decided to make some prints for my little girl's rooms, and I was messing around tonight and made these. I had seen a very similar striped print like this at a baby boutique by my house and I thought I'd give it a try. Madi just barely moved into her own room and her colors are pink, black, and turquoise. I am having this printed in an 8X10 and I will hopefully find a really fun frame to go with!

Then this is my sweet Mia's I am having this printed in an 11X14 and am hoping to find a great frame as well! I think both will be great for their bare walls!

Monster rice bag tutorial

I was pretty Bored tonight so I decided to play with some felt! And I came up with a little monster rice bag for my little man to snuggle up in bed with. You know those rice bags that we all have and love, you pop them in the microwave and then they heat up your feet or heal your sore back. Last year for Christmas I made me and a bunch of my girlfriends some, now my little boy just loves it. So I decided I would make him his very own and one that was maybe a little more his style!

This project is way simple, and so fun because there is NO WRONG WAY! and any mess ups don't matter at all because it just adds character to the little guys.

Step 1. This took the longest for me! Trying to decide the shape of his body! I ended up drawing this shape and you are more then welcome to print it if you want! But really look at it??? NO PERFECTION HERE! just draw some weird shape and you can make it into a monster body! After you have decided on the shape cut two pieces of that shape out of the felt. I just layered my pieces and cut them at the exact same time.

STEP 2. Next use your other felt pieces and give the guy some personality. Do what ever you please!! One eye, no eye, hair etc.

Step 3. Sew all of your little pieces to the top part of your monster. I have seen this done hand sewn or by machine. I used black thread because I thought the contrast would be a little fun but I don't think I love it! I also tried a new stitch on my machine around the eye balls, again not sure if I love it but whatever, it was fun to try out.

I sewed my little claws up into the body so that when I turned the monster inside out they would stick out... Does that make sense? Look at the pic...

Step 4. Sew right sides together all the way around. I left an opening on his foot to pour in the rice you can leave your opening where you think will be easiest to sew back up or to hide the opening.

Step 5. For some weird reason I store my rice in 2 liter bottles so I already had a funnel shape for the rice stuffing, so you can pour in your rice however you want!! (make a paper funnel or something) But go ahead and fill that bad boy up!

Step 6. Sew up your opening, Plop the guy into the microwave and give him to your buddy to snuggle up to to keep warm! Depending on how big you make your monster depends on how long to keep it in the microwave. For my normal one I usually do 2 min but that was too long for this little guy, I'd say 1 min to 1 1/2 min is good.

I think this is a fun little boy gift idea, I might make them for my little man to give to all of his little buddies. This monster is kind of small, I think next time I will make a bigger one, but this would be great for pocket warmers and just a little warmer for bed! Have fun! Send me pics if you make one!

The other day I was at the bus stop with my little girl. Me and the other mama got chatting and she was telling me about her sisters new etsy shop Couture Prints. (which is way way cheap! so you probably should check her out and do a little Christmas shopping!) Anyways my friend was saying how her sister designs different digital prints and then sells them on Etsy. So I went home checked out her shop and thought, Why am I not printing and framing my own prints of random sayings??? So I sat down and made a few, and it was way fun! I have a few saved and I thought what a fun Christmas gift to get printed and framed for a friend or a sister.

Fast forward to the other night, I was blog hopping around and I ran into THIS cute blog and found this SUPER cute Thanksgiving saying!!

How cute is this??? LOVE it! if you go to her blog she has a PDF format saved for you and you can print your own!! Nice of her! Plus she has tons of other way cute ideas to check out to!

(I have something to admit...Did you know that I had no idea this was a poster from WWII??? Keep Calm and Carry On was a poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, it was intended to raise the morale of the British public under the threat of invasion. It was little known and never used. It was rediscovered in 2000 and now printed all over, for decorations I have seen it in TJMAX, Ross, and tons of etsy shops! Kind of interesting huh? Now that I know the history I like it even much more! )

Anyways! So my question is what kind of creative computer programs do you use to scrap book, edit etc??? I WISH I had photo shop but I don't, and even if I did, I am not sure I have the brains to figure that baby out!!! SO I use Scrapbook Factory Deluxe. I bought it for ten bucks a couple of years ago and I LOVE it! I use it for everything. Invitations, cards, name tags, paper dolls, crafts, all kinds of things. In fact after I saw miss craftily Ever afters print, and even though she was giving it to us for free fifty free, I still wanted to try one out and see how close I could get...

Pretty close, but I am loving her turkey way better!

Good bye toy room!

Last year, after some good garage sale hunting my daughter and I made over our toy room! It was so much fun, because this was the toy room who cares how it really turned out right??? I just wanted it to be bright and fun and a place for the kids to just play! I didn't want to spend a fortune because I knew it wouldn't be a toy room for too long and it was a kids room it wouldn't be long before ~~boogers were wiped all over the place~~ milk was spilled. The room served it's purpose wonderfully, but now it is GONE! yep gone! All toys have been moved into the basement because big sis and little sis were just too sick of sharing! (or mom was too sick of the two of them waking each other up!) So now it has been repainted and is awaiting some ~~garage sale finds~~ new furniture and curtains, which I need a little energy to get done! So for now enjoy these pics of our old toy room and look forward to the new bedroom, if I ever get it around to it!

Bottle Cap Fun!

SO I was at my favorite co op store the other day and they had these bottle cap thingys all over the place. They were really cute, and I decided I needed to figure out how to make them. So I kind of did but I am not 100% happy with it yet! Anyways I went to my craft closet and pulled out this gloss glaze stuff I had bought for a previous craft and bam it hit me this stuff would work. So here we go... I made these ones as magnets but I have seen them glued to hair clips, or how cute would they be as paper weights, or glued to the end of a paper clip, I don't know??? What else???

So now that I had the gloss my next, thought was where am I going to get bottle caps? I guess this project is more popular then I knew because Hobby Lobby had them and Ben Franklin, who would have thought??? I thought I was going to be drinking the night away!

PS I bought the gloss from Hobby Lobby forever ago, and this stuff lasts FOREVER!

Next, I looked in my embellishment drawer, yep I have an embellishment drawer! I decide to test it with Halloween brads, I just tore the brad part off of the back. and I cut a circle out in Halloween paper glue them both to the cap, and then put my gloss on top.

You have to let them dry for like 24 hours and there you go you are done! They are simple and easy!

I tried doing it with stickers, and plain paper too, but the gloss discolors your paper, so I am thinking maybe if you laminated your print first and then glossed it it would maybe work?? I am not sure, but for now I guess I'll just stick to metal or plastic objects!

Finger Puppet Stocking Stuffers!

SERIOUSLY!! You know me I LOVE a good etsy shop, and I also love CUTE AND CHEAP!! Check out these darling finger puppets! First I need to add a little disclaimer: I AM WELL AWARE OF HOW MUCH CUTER THIS COULD BE! I mean really I could have added some more funky paper, maybe some ribbon, strings, or rick rack. I even thought about doing a little laminated square for it to be dry eraser but then I KNEW that we would just lose that blasted dry erase marker! (maybe I'll paint a chalk square) Ok now that I have that cleared up let me explain my little project...

Remember when you were first married and you hardly EVER nagged that cute hubby of yours??? And now that you are an actual grown adult it seems like you have like 5 things a day to nag your honey buns about. Well, I just get sick of always feeling like I'm an old NAG!! So we came up with a little agreement where each Sunday I get to add three honey do's to this clip board. They can be whatever 3 things that I want and the rule is that by the next Sunday all three things HAVE to be done and then we start over! The clipboard hangs in our kitchen so it is his reminder rather then me and then he doesn't have to look at me like I am his constant reminder of all of the things that he has to do or isn't doing and instead he thinks of how hot I am and how he wants to just kiss me and buy me lots of pretty things!! It's a win win for both of us really! The only hard part is narrowing it down to only 3!!!

PS if you decide to make one and you make one waaay cuter then mine (which won't be hard!) send me pics I would love to see!

PSS I used a little clipboard rather then a large one that way it didn't take up so much space and wasn't as noticeable.

I have been wanting to make my girls some shirts. I just kept putting it off and putting it off and then finally I pulled out my machine and googled little girl shirt tutorials. I came across THIS BLOG and this tutorial. An hour later I had two shirts made for my little meeza peeza! I love them they are so cute! Seriously if you are new to sewing you NEED to try this project! It is soooooo simple! and it takes hardly any fabric. Both shirts that I made came straight from my stashes of fabric I have spread all over my house! I was thinking how cute these could be out of Halloween fabric! But maybe next year I am way too cheap to go buy Halloween fabric for only 10 days of use!!! Anyways hope you enjoy!

Spooky finger bread

I know I know another recipe??? Sorry but I am in charge of bread sticks for our family halloween party this weekend. I was hoping to try something new and I found this awesome hand to go with my Mama's awesome chilli! How cute is this???? Love it! Go HERE for more awesome halloween bread recipes!

Prep Time: 8 min (not including thaw time)

Bake Time: 20-25 min

Ingredients

5 Rhodes Texas™ Rolls, thawed but still cold

1 egg, beaten

aluminum foil

Instructions

Shape 3 rolls into a wide oval. With scissors, cut a deep 3-inch slice down one side of the oval for the thumb. Cut 3 more slices to form fingers. These will not be as deep as the thumb slice. Pull the thumb down and away from the rest of the fingers. Place hand on sprayed baking sheet. Spread fingers apart and push an indention into the bottom of the palm.

Press knuckles into the fingers by using the end of a spoon to cut small half circles.

Press your fingertip deeply into the ends of the dough to make depressions for fingernails. Roll another roll into a long rope and cut off 2 small pieces for warts and 5 pieces cut on the diagonal for nails. Shape nails into long, flat tear drops and press them into the depressions. Shape the small pieces into round balls and press into the hand for warts, where desired.

Shape the remaining roll into a long flat rectangle for the wrist. Place it slightly under the hand.

Slash hand and wrist with a knife to add spooky cuts and stitches. Crinkle up aluminum foil to form a log shape. Drape fingers over the top of a small, oven-safe bowl sprayed with non-stick spray. Use the foil where needed for support. Brush hand with egg. Let rise 15 to 30 minutes. Just before baking, pinch the sides of the knuckles. Bake at 350°F 20-25 minutes. Check nails and warts during baking and reshape if necessary. Let hand cool completely before removing from dish and foil.

Don't you just love these fun spooky witch fingers??? I don't think a year goes by that my sweet mama doesn't make at least 2 batches! They are so fun for parties or neighbor treats!!

Witches Finger Cookie Recipe

Yield: 5 dozen

1 cup sugar

1 cup Butter, softened

1 Egg

1 tsp Almond extract

1 tsp Vanilla extract

2 2/3 cups Flour

1 tsp Salt

3/4 cup whole Almonds, blanched

2 squares of melting chocolate, or chocolate bark

Combine the sugar, egg, butter, almond extract, and vanilla in a bowl. Mix in the flour, and salt. Cover and refrigerate the dough for about 30 minutes, or until it’s firm.

When you’re ready to shape the cookies, only take out a small portion of the dough at a time. Shape the cookies into fingers by rolling and working with your hands. Score the top of the cookie with a knife or spatula to make it look like the wrinkles in your knuckle. Press an imprint into the tip of the cookie with your finger to make a spot for the almond finger nail. Press an almond into the tip of each finger to look like a fingernail.

Placed on a cooking sheet lightly coated with no-stick cooking spray and bake at 325` for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cookies are a very light golden brown. Let the cookies cool on a drying rack.

Use melting chocolate to go around the outside of the almond nail, giving a ghoulish appearance. Just melt the chocolate, put it in an icing piping bag, and cut a very small hole in the tip. Then pipe around the nail.

If you use red melting chocolate the look will be even more dramatic, you can also make small drops of chocolate blood, or chocolate cuts on the cookies if you really want to gross out your guests.

I saw these cheese cloth ghosts tutorials floating around and had to blog about them. My ma, sisters, and I made these a couple of years ago! I LOVED THEM! Not only were they so simple but they were super cheap! Really the only thing you need to go buy is the cheese cloth. You can get that at any fabric store and probablly even Walmart. If you haven't ever seen these or try these you totally should. Even you "not crafty" girls! This is one that you won't mess up. Also after you make your ghost you will have extra cheese cloth lying sround for more decorations. Remember when I spray painted my branches for Valentines day??? Well I thought ohhh Halloween ones would be good to! So I went stick gathering again and actually got stopped twice by two people wondering if I was ok!! I am sure I looked completely ridiculous gathering sticks but that is just fine I am used to looking ridiculous!! We took them home spray painted them Orange and black and threw on some glitter. Then I had miss madi color me some Halloween pictures to hang and I have several wallet sized Halloween pictures from years past being printed right now. I can't wait to hang our memories from my spooky branches! I love Halloween!!! If you to have orange and black spray paint in your stash this too can be free for you!! For play group the other day me, my little boy and his buddies decided to make SLIME!!! If you are feeling icky and sticky or you need a fun boy activity,or halloween table prop slime is the answer! and it is soooo simple! My kids beg to play with it every day! Here's the recipe...Have fun!

Homemade Slime Recipe
Borax
White Glue
Water
Food Coloring (optional)
Ziploc bag

1. Borax is available in the laundry section of the grocery store. Take a cup of water and add to it 1 Tbs. of borax. Stir until completely dissolved. I actually used prob 2 TBs because it was too sticky.

2. Add a 1/2 cup of glue

3. Add a couple drops of food coloring.

4. Stir really good!

5. Dig in and have fun.

6. Keep your slime in a sealed bag in the refrigerator or an air tight container

Halloween Advent Calendar

My mom saw this really cute idea on one of those morning talk shows so for craft night we got together and made these babies! I think they are so cute! So you can't really tell but the numbers are little metal party favor boxes. The lids have the numbers glued to them and then on the inside you place little candies, toys, goodies, love notes etc for the kids to open each day. I am going to add in mine clues to where to find bigger treats, jokes, and maybe some that say do the monster mash or different silly things for the kids to do. I also LOVE that I can flip this around and do Christmas on the back. The numbers are glued to a plastic circle on the lid so I can flip them and do Christmas numbers on the other side.

So here is the info:
We bought the magnet boards at the Heartland scrapbook store.
We bought Halloween scrapbook paper and used a cricket for the circles, square, and numbers.
Ribbon to embellish and or hang
And the the party favor boxes we bought at Michael's with a 40% off coupon.
And then just glued it all together.

Total cost was probably $19.00 which is kind of pricey but think it is for two holidays and it can become a family tradition!!! Plus I was thinking the other day I bet you could get cheaper magnet boards at home depot or Lowe's if you just went and got a metal sheet???

My Hubby went fishing Friday night so out of pure boredom I pulled out my machine! and oh how I have missed her! Good old Walmart was having a bolt sale and I found this striped fabric. I got 5 yards of it for 5.00. Can't beat that. So I have like a million ideas to make with it. But first up was a dress for Moo. Although she looks extremely unhappy in these pictures, she absolutely loved the dress.

To make it I just measured her bust and length and then cut the fabric one and half times her width and then to the length that I wanted. Then I hemmed the edges and used my favorite elastic thread for the top and the middle. After I took about 2 inchwides strips and braided them for the straps.

You can't see the dress too well in these pics, but I LOVE the way it turned out. I'm debating if a 28 year old mama would look good in one! And of course every dress needs accessories so I made a head band too. Of course we had to have a flower headband but then I wanted a giant ruffle one too. And I get what I want so I made one! :) For the headband I used satin and wrapped it around a plastic headband hot gluing along the way.

I didn't attach the ruffle to the headband because now I can interchange flowers and such! also the ruffle would work without a head band and maybe you can even get a little freaky and embellish a shirt or something!! Anyways it felt WAAAYYY too good to be sewing again! I need to do that more.

I'm really not sure what my deal is I am a hit and miss blogger! I love to blog and craft but I go in these weird phazes where one minute I love it and and can't wait to post what I have been working on and then next minute if I see another blog I will probablly throw up!! I know I'm weird. I have never claimed to be normal though so I guess it's ok. We recently put our house on the market and between that, and summer I have had ZERO time to get extra crafty let alone bloggy. But lately I have been having the itch to create! Did anyone else see this story on the Today show Last week? I'm not going to lie, I RARELY watch the today show. I mean lets be honest usually the only thing showing on my TV is Clifford the big Red Dog or Syd the Science kid. But for some reason I actually had mom TV on last Thursday and they were doing a story about this 10 year old fashion designer! My little Madi girl was sitting there with me and when the story was over she looked at me and said, "Mom let's go sew!" This girl is amazing for a 10 year old! Onesie tunic top

Ok so Walmart last week had these awesome onesies for 3 bucks! They had all kinds of colors and sizes so I had to buy one to make something for my little meezers. I was thinking an elastic band tunic top... What do you think???

1. Super easy, and I thought of several ways to do it as I was doing it and I am still not sure which ways are the easiest. So here is what I did.

I cut the bottom of the onesie off about 1-2 inches below the arm pit. You choose how far down you want to cut it, it depends on where you want to place your elastic and how big your elastic is. I used 1 1/2 inch black elastic from walmart.

2.Next I cut my elastic 1 inch smaller then Mia's bust measurement.Then I sewed the elastic together making a ring, essentially a skirt top.

3. I chose my fabric. The amount of fabric that you use depends on how full and ruffly you want the skirt, and how long. For Mia's I wanted it to be a little shorter so it was more of a shirt rather then a dress, and I didn't care for it too be too full so I just doubled her waist measurements.

4. Here is where there are several options but this is the way I did it. I sewed the skirt right sides together to the cut off end of the onesie (obviously!) and the top of the skirt.

5. Next I just pinned my elastic onto the onesie and skirt and then sewed the elastic directly over the dress. on top and on bottom of the elastic.

6. Next decide how you want to embellish it if at all. I originally added this black and white hounds tooth to the hem but changed my mind later and folded it under and sewed it up. Which I think is kind of cute when it shows every once in awhile!

7. Don't forget to hem your skirt and pair it with some cute leggings and there you have your own little tunic top!

The 3 in One baby!!

Do you ever start a project and it turns out COMPLETELY different then what you were first envisioning? This is how this 3 in one piece came to life! And I am glad because I LOVE it! I bought this fabric back in October at Material Girls (my favorite fabric store) First it was going to be used for a jacket, and then I started sewing my panels together for a twirly skirt but half way through changed my mind. I have been dying over the paper bag waist skirts for awhile now and I decided it was time to give it a try. I LOVE how this turned out because it is a skirt, dress, and shirt all in one! Too fun!!! I am going to attempt a tutorial for you but like I said when I sat down to sew I wasn't intending to make this skirt so I'll do the best explaining that I can!

1. Pick your fabrics. I decided to piece mine so my rectangles are about 5 inches wide and 12 inches long. But you don't have to piece your fabric you could just do one rectangle of the same fabric. The measurements need to be 4 inches longer then your desired length and the width is 2 x your waist measurement. So Madi's waist is 24 inches and I usually make her skirts 13 inches long so my rectangle was 17X48

I wanted the top of my skirt, the paper bag part I guess you would say, and the hem line to be a different colored fabric so it would stand out a little more, so take that into consideration as you are making your rectangle. You just need your entire rectangle to be your desired Length plus 4 inches and your width twice the size of your waist measurement.

2. Fold your fabric width wise right sides together and sew down the length side seam making a tube, or body of the skirt!

3. I didn't take pictures of some of these next steps because, well just because!! I wasn't really thinking! I got too excited sewing! So listen carefully! Turn your skirt right side out now and go to the top of your skirt, the waist line. Turn your waistline under 4 inches stitch the waist line all the way around the skirt but leave a 1/2 inch opening to later put in your elastic.

4. About a 1/2 inch above the stitch that you just did you are going to sew again all the way around your waist essentially making a casing for your thin elastic.

5. Insert your elastic through the opening that you left and cinch it all the way around the waist. When you get the two ends together sew the elastic together and then stitch up that opening hiding your elastic.

6. And now for the hem. I am kind of weird. I want ted my hemline to look clean and pretty so I did my hem this way. You can definitely just do it the good old way of ironing a half inch twice and stitching it up but this is how I did it. I took my bottom piece of mismatched fabric and folded it in half. I ironed it really good and then sewed the raw side to the right side of the skirt. Does that make sense??? Then folded it over and Ironed it again. This is just my preference I just like the way it looks underneath the skirt.

7. I have never sewn with the pom poms before so I may not have done this the way it is supposed to be done. But I liked the way it turned out so who knows! I just sewed the pom poms directly on to the hem line stitch.

And lastly just so this could be worn as a shirt, or a dress for Mia I added two strings to the top of the skirt. They are long enough to be tied around the girl's neck as a halter, and short enough to hid in the skirt when Madi is wearing it. I almost forgot, I like the look of a string/belt around the waist line so you can do that too if you want. Don't tell anyone, but for my string/belt I took bias tape sewed the edges closed and used that!! Can you do that??? I just did!

Please let me know if you have questions! Sometimes it is hard for me to explain how I actually did it! I can visualize it so much better then teaching it! Have fun, and send pics!

So this wasn't even a planned post, but thought I would share my opinion! For mothers day a couple of years ago I had my kids make my mama and my MIL garden stones with their names and feet print on them. Ever sense then my little Madi has been dying to do one for her own playhouse in our backyard. So this last weekend I saw these kits on sale at Target for $8.00, it said enough for 4 stones and very kid friendly. The kits I had bought for my mom's was a little bit pricier (18.00 but if you use their 40% off only like 11.50 or something.) so I thought this was a great deal. So we pulled the kit out today to make the stones and I was very disappointed!! NOT A FAN!! If you are going to do this project then you have to pay the extra money and get a kit like this one from Hobby Lobby Really it is not that much extra with the coupon and it is well worth it. The Target kit came with one tiny bag of decorations for the stones. Like maybe enough for one stone rather then the 4 it says on the box. It only had one tray in it with a butterfly stencil so we couldn't even do a normal flat one for my boy. The mix dried WAY TOO FAST! You think that would be a good thing but when you are working with kiddies they need a little time to place everything. And I have a feeling that this one might shatter easier as well! The Hobby Lobby one had TONS of tiles, and jewels. In fact I even had some left over that we used with this cheap set. It had two trays, and basically it was just easier and better!! Both mom's loved their garden stones. In fact both still have them in their flower beds so it is a fun, good gift idea for your kids it's just the matter of getting the right kit!

I know some people don't even use kits, I have a friend who does these all on her own and they are so cute! I just needed a quick and easy set! So if you are looking for a short simple garden stone go with a kit!

Headboard

When my hubby and I were first married we lived in this old old old apartment that sat right on our favortie park. It was by far one of my most favorite places that we have ever lived. We had so much fun in that apartment and I think every piece of furniture that we owned was either given to us or bought at a thrift store. My hubby and I did not have any bedroom furniture and I was feeling crafty at the time so I made one of these door head boards. I was thinking about it tonight and wanted to share it so I googled door headboards just to see if I could find any images and there were a ton! This project was so simple and so much fun. We went to lowes and bought a white door. Looking back now I am sure you could find a door somewhere right??? Ok Maybe not. I decided on red so I painted the door red, sanded the edges, and then wiped it with a brown stain. We then took a 2X4 and nailed it to the top of the door. I stained the 2X4 with the same brown stain and then my hubby mounted it to our wall right above our bed. I loved that bed! It was fun, unique, and cheap. Now I have new bedroom furniture which is beautiful but sometimes I think I want to get rid of it just so I can try and think of another bedroom idea! Crazy huh! Anyways check out these pics! I have been told my whole life that I have a one track mind! I am not sure if that is a good thing or not! But there is some truth in it! I get these ideas and then I just can't seem to get rid of them and I obsess over them for long periods of time until I either get that object or I have moved on to something else bigger and better. Well lately I have been obsessing over finishing a craft room for me in my basement! YES! I NEED ONE! I knew you would all agree. But as I imagine this room of mine in my head I think of all kinds of different spaces. What do you have that you love or hate in your craft room? What would you for sure put in yours? I know mine will have lots and lots of shelving and colors! One day, one day!! For now I guess I will have to drool over all of these ones floating around the internet.

You know when you are just in an etsy browsing mood! Well the other night I was just searching all over etsy just soaking in the creativity there, and I was amazed at how many pillowcase dresses were for sale. But seriously it is the spring and EVERY little girl needs a pillow case dress. This one pictured is one of my first pillowcase dresses that I made almost a year ago, using this tutorial. I could not believe how simple this dress was to make! It is great for beginners. I loved this tutorial because of the elastic in the neck, rther then a draw string. I just feel safer with elastic rather then a draw string!!??!! Maybe I am weird! Anyways a pillowcase dress is the perfect spring/summer dress, so go get sewing!! The ruffle pants under this dress was made from an old pajama bottom pattern I had and I just added a ruffle to the bottom of each leg.

Where did these silly car seat covers come from? I have seen several shops or blogs claiming that they were the inventors of these handy dandy car seat covers, but really who thought of these??? Anyways when I saw one while I was prego with baby number three I HAD to have one but I couldn't shell out the $45.00 they were asking for it. So I took a mental picture and headed to the fabric store. Depending on the fabric that you choose this project really could be dirt cheap. But heres the tutorial for one, happy sewing!

(note there are probablly 1000's of ways to make this cover, this is the version that I like best!)

1. You will need about a yard and 1/4th of two kinds of fabric for this project. If you are using ribbon instead of fabric for the straps you can get away with only a yard of each fabric.

So first cut your two fabrics into a 35X39 inch rectangle.

the 35 inches are your top and bottom and the 39 inches are your two long sides

2. Keep your two fabrics lying on top of each other and round your corners. I do this by tracing a bowl or a plate on each corner.

3. Embellish it if you would like. You really don't have to I like some of mine plain but some times I just feel like a little ric rack or ribbon.

If you are doing ric rack or ribbon just measure where you want it on your cover and sew it directly on the top or bottom piece whichever you are embellishing. For this cover I wanted to add a big flower so I used my pellon and cut flower petals out and then ironed them directly onto the top of my cover

Then I sewed along the edges of my flower onto the cover and sewed a red button in the center.

4. Now with right sides togetehr sew the top and bottom pieces of your cover together. Sew all the way around but on one of the sides leave about a 4 inch opening.

5. Turn you cover right side out through the 4 inch opening and iron the whole cover. Then I stitch about a half inch all the way around the outside of the cover to give it a finished look and to seal up that 4 inch opening.

6. Now it's time for straps. There are so many ways to do straps. We have done little velcro ones, tie around ones, and tie around ones with ribbon. For this cover I did fabric tie around ones.

Cut 4 strips of fabric 22 inches long and 3 inches wide

Sew two of them right sides together leaving a small opening in the middle, and then do the same for the next two. Turn them right side out and iron.

7. Now measure on the top front 20 inches from the bottom and 12 1/2 inches from the sides. (remember the sides are the 39 inch long side of the cover and the bottom is the 35 inch short side of the cover! I have sewn these on wrong several times!!!)

Then just sew your strap directly onto the cover. We always just sew a rectangle in the very middle and I sew it over and over again just to make sure it is sturdy.

I love these for my own babies but even more for baby gifts! Super fast, super easy, and very cheap!

Craftin with Grandma!

So my crafting buddy (my mama) recently moved many miles away from me, (ok maybe just like 35) but still she used to live right around the corner and let me tell you there were many late night projects going on around here!

A couple of weeks ago the hubman was gone fishing so me and the kiddies went and played with grandma. I was working on some of my own projects and the kiddies wanted to make something with grandma. So grandma came up with these cute bracelets. They are pretty simple so here's how it goes...

First: Cut a rectangle about 2 1/2 inches wide and measure your baby's wrist. Make the length of the rectangle about an inch and half longer then his wrist measurement.

Then: She folded about a half inch over on the width end, like the picture, and ironed it down.

Next: fold it in half length wise and press it again. She then sewed it together like a tube, with right sides together so that your tube is inside out. She left one short end opened and sewed one end up, so she could turn the bracelet right side out.

Turn the bracelet right side out and sew the other short end closed. Then embellish it however you want. We used this iron on beading and iron on diamond strip for my Madi girls. But we also did a button and a batman for my other two kiddies. There really is no wrong way. let your kids get involved and let them choose.

Last step is to hand stitch your snaps on both ends so that they can wear these.

I think these are simple and fun! A great way to get your kids involved. Also I was thinking how cute these would be as those little rattle bracelets for babies. Maybe sew a felt heart or something full of beads for the rattles and just attach the heart to the bracelet. I just might have to try one!

Your little Sleeping Beauty

I have come to terms with it... Yes my daughter is a little Diva. What 5 year old begs for a sleeping mask? Mine does!! Funny thing was that her little friend had been begging for one too. And then a third little friend was kind of feeling left out because she didn't have one of these silly masks. So one day while the girls were playing here, I thought heck I could make one for this little friend of ours and I could not believe how easy this was!

I should have taken more pics but I didn't! Here is what I did though. I traced Madi's original mask, (you wouldn't need one to trace just look at this shape and free hand it.) Then I cut a bottom layer, a top layer, and a layer of batting for the middle all that same shape.

Then I embellished the top layer. I just ironed on a B (for bailey) and added some diamonds. Pretty simple, but you could go crazy! Next I took the really thin elastic and measured it about 12 inches and pinned it to both sides.

And last I took double folded extra wide Bias tape and used it to finish the edges and hold the whole thing together.

This was so fast and something a little different. I think they would be so cute for a slumber party or something! If your little girl is a diva you gotta make her one!

Another version of the Fabric Flower

Sooo I learned how to make these paper flowers awhile back and as I was sewing for my friends baby girl I needed to make a flower for this little hat. I instantly thought of these paper flowers and thought Heck, fabric would work too right??? Right!! So here's how they turned out!

**Cut weird little scalloped circles out of your fabric. I chose three different fabrics and I folded them like three times and cut them all out at the same time so they would be the exact shape. Remember they don't have to be perfect, that's what makes them unique and fun!

** Next I took two "flower shapes" and sewed the wrong sides together around the edges. This was just so the ugly side of the fabric wasn't showing when we put the flower together. See I told you they don't have to be perfect, pretty ugly shapes huh!

** Next fold your flower petal in half once and then again and stitch right along the bottom. A sewing machine is the quickest for this but you could also hand stitch it.

** Last you are going to just layer your petals all together inside and outside of each other until you get your desired shape. I recommend hand stitching this part because it's easier to shape your flower into what you want it to look like but I took the lazy way out and just hot glued them together. On the back I always glue a felt circle and glue a pin to it so I can attach this baby wherever I want.

** This particular flower is going on a corduroy baby hat. and I think it is fantastic! (I was sad my baby's head was to big to model this!! I guess she is not a newborn anymore!)

Maximus The Great!

See this cute little dude! Yes, he's mine!! All MINE! and today he turned 3!!! Holy Cow! I have a big boy! Anyways with his birthday today I have been thinking about party themes... Lets chat shall we??? How do you celebrate your child's birthday? Any fun traditions? Any cool ideas that I NEED to know about so that my child is not missing out? Birthdays have always been pretty special around here, so throwing a party isn't usually something I complain about it, It's actually something I love to do and I have so much fun with it! (kind of funny though because this year little max isn't really having a P-A-R-T-Y) But I still love throwing them! So this post is all about birthday ideas what have you done or seen done that is just mind blowing and something that we all must know about! Either leave a comment with your stories or share a link for us to all visit!!

This was Mr. Max's first Birthday party. You gotta have a toga party if your name is Maximus. TOGA!! TOGA!! TOGA!! We had everyone dress up and we played some olympic games. The winners got an olive branch and gold metals. It was one of my most favorite parties that we have done.

This was my daughter's 5th birthday. She loves to sew, bake, and create kind of like her mama (oh wait I suck at baking!) But she wanted to have a cooking party and bake cupcakes. So we made a bunch of aprons and little chef hats. When the girls got there we made cupcakes,decorated cupcakes,decorated their chef hats, and made homemade icecream in a bag! (here's the recipe) The girl's all loved it! Such a fun memorable party that only costed pennies to put on.

lastly check this girl out! This is a tea party that this awesome mama put on for her daughters and neices! You really need to visit this blog post! All of the little details just really completed this party! It was too cute!

An easier way to do the ruffle bum

When my mama and I first started our little etsy adventure one of the first few things that went in the shop were ruffle bum onesies. They were so much fun! I love being creative with them and thinking of different things to put on the front of them. Well one of my bestest friends in the whole entire world is having a baby girl this week so I have been busy putting together all kinds of girly things for a gift basket for her. I have been making tutus, hats, a car seat cover, hair bows, onesies, burp cloths, and tights! (girls are so easy!!)I'll have to post them all slowly. But as I was making her a ruffle bum today I thought of a different way for the little ruffle bum!!!! I usually make the ruffles in strips and sew them on separately this time I did one gigantic ruffle and only sewed one on. I love the way it turned out and it's a lot faster. I don't feel like this picture gives it justice! But here is a little tute of how I did it.

First: Start picking a color theme and fabrics. I liked pinks Imagine that!!

Second: Decide what you want the front to be. I chose Hearts. I don't really know why usually I am not a heart fan. But I really like the way this turned out. So I got some pellon, and Ironed my heart fabric to that and then I cut out two hearts. One a little bit bigger in pink corduroy fabric, and one a little smaller in a different print. Then you peel the back of that pellon off and place your shape on your onesie wherever you want. And Iron that baby away! Sometimes I take a scrap piece of fabric to put over my onesie while I am ironing just to make sure I don't leave marks.

Third: I stitch the hearts into place. Because I have already ironed the heart on technically I don't HAVE to stitch the hearts on, but I do because I like the look. I usually try to use a different color of thread just to add color.

Fourth: I wanted some bling on this heart. So I made a little bow. To do this I simply chose some tulle and ric rack and sewed them all together right in the middle. Then I picked out some buttons and sewed them on to. After the little bow was all done I hand sew it to the onesie. I usually just make sure I stitch it really good so that it can be washed and not fall off.

Fifth: It's ruffle time! I had never tried it this way before so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. But this is what I did. I took 4 fabric rectangles and 2 tulle rectangles and placed them on top of each other. Each rectangle got smaller in width as I went. And then I did my gather stitch right down the middle of all of them at the same time. (Remember to gather stitch you set your stitch at the longest setting and sew without back stitching. Then you pull your bobbin thread and watch it all gather) After it was gathered, I pinned it on the bum of the onesie where I wanted it and I pinned the ric rack right over my gathering stitch and sewed it all to the bum.

I am kind of mad at these pictures because I don't think it gives it justice! It really is adorable. This picture almost looks like the ruffle is too wide or doesn't fit the onesie well. But it is darling! Give it a try let me know what you think, or if you have questions!

This is something I did years ago but the other day my friend was at my house and asked if I had posted these. Because I did them before I started blogging I didn't really think about posting them. But here you go.

My honey is an avid fisherman. So when I was prego with my little Max man we decided to decorate his room in a fishing theme. And sadly it is still not even complete! But this part is! I found fabric for a $1.00 a yard and made his bedding and window panel. We hung his curtain panel with two fishing rods and those fish stringer clips!!

Then I took a metal fish string and used it as a picture holder. I think it's kind of cute, but I am also kind of weird! So if you need any little boy fishing room decortion ideas, here you go! And if you don't well then have a good day! :)

The Picasso Within

My Baby loves to draw mermaids. Seriously we have about 50 lying around here. I love them. I think that they just scream childhood, fairytales, and fantasy. I have been wanting to display them in her room somehow and decided that I was going to Modge podge one onto a large canvas for her. So One day we pulled out our canvas and chose scrapbook paper to put on as the background. I asked her to draw me her best mermaid and she said she'd rather modge podge one. And I thought briliant! Let's try. So together we pieced her a mermaid pretty much identical to the ones that she draws. Notice the circle hands and crazy face! She then insisted on adding some of my clip on vintage earrings. (I'm not gonna lie It is hard for me to part with those babies!) We finished with her autograph in the lower corner on the heart. I still want to display her actual drawings and I will get to that one day, but for now I love this original piece of art done my Madi herself!

PS she is definitly my daughter, notice her ear bling, she has an obsession with them as well!

Still Obsessed with Paper Banners

I don't really know why, I just love them! I decided to make one for my girlies bedroom. I did butterfly Kisses because it just seemed so sweet and girly. It was so much fun to accessorize this baby. I used glitter, diamonds, ric rack, lace, buttons, brads, and my good old clip on earrings. Three tips for making a paper banner...

1. Throw out the regular glue sticks and pull out your hot glue gun! It goes so much faster and holds so much better!!
2. GLUE ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING your little heart desires to this banner.
3. Borrow your mom's cricket to cut letters and shapes!! (Thanks MOM!!!)

I think the best thing about making this banner was seeing my daughters face when she saw it! She LOVES it.

Maybe I'm crazy!

Ok so I just got on KSL classifieds and purchased a piano for $20.00!! I'm not going to lie I am a little nervous. The hubs has to go pick it up on Monday and it NEEDS to be refinished. That's why I am getting it for $20.00 bucks. But I am kind of excited about it. SOOOO I am hoping people out there are reading this and want to give me some advice on colors!! Especially those of you who have been in my house. I originally was thinking I was going to just stain it, but I think I am going bold and beautiful! Thanks to this Design Mom I love this mama's piano she painted. Isn't that Fabulous!! So what color people????? Laci are you there?? I need help!!! Wish me luck! Oh and so the colors of my house, I have this weird mustardy yellowish paint all over, (Kind of wishing I could repaint the whole house right now!) Blue couches, brown curtains??? I'm thinking maybe a blue or grey piano?? Or I could always just be boring and go with brown. HELP?

my fun little lamp shade

Remember my ruffle fetish, well it hasn't gone away. One night I got in the crafty mode and started hot gluing brown satin ruffles to my shade. I originally thought the cream and brown stripes would be cute but then I didn't like it! So I started to add flowers in between to fill in the space. I think eventually the whole shade will be covered in its ruffles and flowers, but I only make a flower when I feel inspired to do so!!! :) But I don't hate it now so we will see.

When things like this happen....

Then things like these happen...I have new accessories for the mantel! I can't wait to paint them an aquay blue with a dark stain! (It's in the works!)

I knew the old seat pad could be used for something! And then I remembered my old blanket box with a crappy looking lid from little children climbing all over it.And lastly for the two chairs that survived! they got a makeover! My seat cushions were pretty nasty, so I recovered them! But now I only have two chairs at my dining room table!! LAME! I have been looking all over for chairs and I just can't find the perfect ones. So I have decided I am going to find 4 old ones from random garage sales paint them the same aquay blue as my new mantel decorations and beat and stain the heck out of them, and then add a black and white hounds tooth seat cushion to each. But now I just need garage sale season to get here!!Look how nasty that seat cover is above!! I found this fabric at hobby lobby and I LOVE the way they turned out.

I've been in a Funk...

Not a crafting funk because I have still been crafting away, just an I don't want to sit at my computer and write about my craft funk!! I know I am pretty lame! But thanks to some lovely friends, maybe I am feeling it again! This past week I got together with some of my favorite gals and we crafted a little! We made these adorable butterfly necklaces that my Friend had found! Some made them for them selves others including me made them for our little girlys. Madi wore hers today and she looked darling!!

These were really simple! The hard part is just starting. We used rectangle scraps, diamonds ribbon, brads, wire, leather basically whatever your little head can come up with! My favorite part of my necklace is the two leather butterflys. We cut the shape of a butterfly out of leather and modge podged sheet music to the butterfly. I knew that my necklace was going to moo so I made sure the words on it were " love you" and "sunshine" Because well I love her and also one of our favorite songs around her is You are my Sunshine.

And then this is a flower necklace that I made for my self awhile ago, it's not as bright as the other one!! So I don't feel as silly wearing this one around! In fact I have actually worn it twice!! Yahoo!!

Well I was having a little get together last week and it happened to be on the night of my good friends birthday. She said that Pizza Factory bread sticks were her favorite so I decided to try and make these for her. So went to trusty old google and came across the fantastic yummy delicious blog! I LOVE Free!

I needed a little Valentines fun in our house, and Mr. Hess doesn't really like to pay for that little extra fun!! So I got creative! I found some sticks in the back yard and went to my handy dandy spray paint collection and started spraying. We sprayed them red and pink! (I must say that I love the rainbow colored grass it left behind!) Madi was the glitter girl and while the spray paint was drying her job was sprinkling the sticks with glitter. Then I had the kiddies color me some hearts and we hung them on our tree! It's kind of fun. But it was missing something... I wanted a cute table cloth so I went to my fabric scraps and found this pink cotton. I cut a square out of it and made some ruffles and sewed the ruffles and some pink ribbon on. originally I was going to ruffle the whole square but then my ADD kicked in and I just did the two edges. But I still think it turned out pretty cute, if I don't say so myself!

Raise your hand if you think I should stop blogging and go wash those dishes in the background!!!!

Valentines Breakfast in Bed

With Valentines being on a Sunday this year Matt and I have made a little arrangement, that involves me relaxing and him cooking up a little something something for his hot mama for dinner. But then I was thinking about it and it really isn't my style to just be served so I think I will surprise him with a little breakfast in bed for himself. If any of you know me beyond the blogging world and I mean really know me, then you know that at our house that orange Julius is a special treat around here (right Em???) it's one of our favorites! So for breakfast for my man he will be getting a little Orange Julius and a little quiche action (his favorite)

Orange Julius:

1 6 oz can of frozen orange Julius concentrate
1 cup of milk
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of sugar
1 tsp of vanilla
10-12 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in blender, blend until smooth makes 6 cups.

Quiche (thank you Ami!)

1 cup of diced broccoli
1 cup of mushrooms
1 1/2 cup of diced ham
1/3 cup diced onion
1 cup of grated Swiss cheese
1 cup of grated cheddar cheese
1 pie crust (the two pack kind that are in the freezers at the grocery store)
4 eggs
2 cups of heavy cream
Salt and pepper to taste

Cut up all of your veggies and cheese and combine them in a bowl. In a separate bowl mix together your eggs, S&P, and heavy cream. Place your pie crust in a pie tin and empty cheese and veggies on top. Pour your egg and cream mixture on top. Place in a 375 oven and bake for 45-50 min.

I am a really picky eater and this is sooo yummy to me! Make sure that you have cooked it all the way through and let it sit for about 10-15 min before serving! Enjoy! Happy Valentines!

Another thing about me!

I don't know why this is, but there are so many styles and fashions out that I absolutely LOVE and adore, but for some reason half of them I would never wear or feel that I could pull them off! There are some things out there that are just so bright and bold and that scream BRANDI! but when it comes right down to it I just don't feel comfortable wearing them! Maybe it is because I like too many styles, because I also love a less bright and bold look like the anthropology and a more classic look. But things even like my ruffle scarf just make me feel weird! I LOVE that scarf but if I wear it I feel like I am saying look at me look at me!! And you know those boutique jeans with the white stitching, I broke down and bought a pair from my good friend but it took me a couple of weeks of wearing them before I stopped feeling too conspicuous! Weird huh! It could also be that I am a spit up queen and I have all kinds of different nasty things on me at all times of the day (thanks to three precious beings!) so maybe it is just the time of life that I am in, and that's why prefer my good old comfy tees and jeans!

Anyways, Last summer I fell in love with these fabric flower necklaces they have been on my to try list for sooooo long and tonight I finally got the courage up to just throw one together! (super easy!!!) But now I have this giant bright bold necklace that I will look at and I will love but that will probably just sit in my closet to be stared and and adored on it's own little hook! Why is that???? I feel like this thing is totally me, the bright colors the funkiness of it, but yet if I wore it I would feel so out of place! Matt has challenged me to wear it tomorrow so we will see what happens, and who knows maybe after a week or two of staring at it I will eventually have it glued to my chest, until then to the closet it goes!

Here is the thing about me that I really really hate! I go to the store and I see something that I LOVE. I want to buy it but then I look at the price tag and I just can't! I then say to myself oh I could make that and then I rarely do. Well anyways I have been meaning to make my girlys some hair accessories for awhile and I just haven't. Yesterday my friend Lindsey and I made some cute flower clips and it got me in the mood to make some more, so today I pulled out my scraps and my glue gun and I just started. I did the first one in 5 minutes and thought why haven't I made these before now.

So here is an easy peasy 5 min hair clip tutorial.Get your supplies out, I used crushed velvet, a lace type thing, and then some beads from a broken necklace that I had.

I cut two flower shapes from the velvet, and then a random circular shape from the lace.

Layer the velvet and hot glue them together, then kind of scrunch the lace and glue it on top of the velvet, and last glue the beads on in the middle.

I always put a felt circle on the back before gluing on the hair clip, I don't really know why I do this, I guess it might sturdy the clip a little bit more but that is just how I have always seen them done.

Then I hot clue my alligator clips to the back. You can buy these clips at any craft store, or you can go to Sally Beauty and buy a box of 500 for like $5.00 (thanks Kristie! for that piece of info!)
And five minutes later you have a new hair clip for your honey bunny!

My little Madi loves to dress up. What 5 year old doesn't right? Well we decided to make her a little make up table. I went to a thrift shop and I found this ugly old brown and gold shelf thing! You should have seen the looks I got carrying this thing around. It really was pretty ugly! (of course I didn't take a before picture) But these people just didn't have the vision like I did! I saw it and instantly thought it would be perfect for Mad's room. So I paid a dollar, spray painted it white, and screwed it in under her mirror. The day after it was hung I went upstairs to find it already getting good use.

Valentines Garland

So have you been noticing in the crafting blogging world a lot of similar Valentine ideas floating around here??? I have to. I think that they are all darling, so I pulled three ideas that I have been seeing a lot into one. On My frugal family, she made a way cute ribbon heart hanger click here for tute details, Then all over the place I have seen these ruffle hanger hearts. So simple. Cut your strip of any type of fabric sew a gathering stitch down the middle, gather it and then hot glue your ruffle to a wire hanger formed into a heart. And then of course there are the Valentine garlands all over the place as well. So I decided to take a bunch of ribbons and hang my hearts onto them. I put it over my fireplace and now we have a new free Valentine decoration for our home! Kind of fun to play off of other ideas floating around the web. Happy Valentines!

Santa's little Helper!

This year Santa Clause pooped this mama out! He needed a little help finishing up a Christmas project for a very cute Little girl, and lets just say that the procrastination in me did not help! But Heck the project was so much fun I can't complain that much! The only sucky part is that Santa gets all the credit for the cuteness, and my little Miss may or may not have "accidentally" seen this hidden in our house!! DANG! at least she believes that we were just storing it for Santa because it wouldn't fit on his sled! and at least she didn't get to actually see it because it was covered with blankets and tarps so it was still kind of a Christmas miracle right???

My sister gave us this old house and it needed a lot of work! But $3.00 and a lot of late night hours, later it was just perfect!
I "wallpapered" each room with scrap book paper and embellished with stickers and brads and buttons! too fun!!

Most of the furniture needed a new paint job but I found that spray paint worked the best for this. And lets be honest we all know by now that I am a little crazy so of course I had tons of spray paint on hand.

I thought that I would be sewing all of the little pillows and bedding but I didn't I took the lazy way out and just used a hot glue gun! I did sew some buttons onto the pillows and I did sew the little rugs together and then clipped the edges and washed them for a rug look! For the bath towells below I cut a white wash cloth and then just sewed a strip of pink rick rac for some extra cuteness.

This has been so much fun for my Madi, she adores it. I love that the total cost for me was $3.00 for some hardwood floor for the kitchen! It's amazing what a little creativity can do!

She has been bit by the bug!

So my Awesome sister in Law has been bit by the sewing bug!! It's about time! I LOVE IT! We often talk about the latest and cutest things we have seen while blog stalking and I finally have a friend who can understand my passion a tiny bit! But I just had to show her off for a minute! For my sweet little Mia Pia's Birthday Aunt Emalee made her this ADORABLE hat out of an old tee shirt! SO STINKING CUTE!! Don't ya think? Of course it is now on my never ending long list of things to try but until that day comes I will just have to admire Mia in the one that was made for her by aunt Em. Thanks Em We LOVE it!

Ruffled tiered skirt...LOVE IT!

So I have this friend LACI. She is an absolute doll! She is so creative and bold and just plain cute! Her daughters are always dressed so dang stylish with the fun bright trends and she just has that eye for style. If you live in Utah then you have to check out her photog blog she is AMAZING and just different from the rest.

So anyways the other day we were going to let our girls play and we decided that while they were playing we should make a skirt. She had this AWESOME leopard print fabric that used to be her dining room kitchen curtains!!!! and then an example of a skirt that she already had. So we studied the skirt and then went to work! Needless to say it took me WAAAYYYY to long to sew and figure out, but I guess that's what happens when you have 6 kids running around and a brand new skirt idea with no pattern.(sorry Laci!!!) But I LOVE IT!! It just lays so cute and it is just so much fun!This is the outfit that we put together, I can't wait to see how Laci dressed it up! She is so good at that!!

I wish so bad that I would have taken pics along the way. But I didn't think of it at the time. So I will do the best to explain, it really is pretty simple. email me if you have any questions.

**First pick your fabric. The fabric we used was like a thin sheer almost a chiffon type. I am sure cotton would work, I am curious to try it. The only problem I can think of is it

might wrinkle a ton and it might be hard to iron out these ruffles, what do you guys think???

** Next cut a rectangle. For about a size 5 we used a 12X40 inch rectangle. I would say that this size would fit anywhere from a 3t-6 and you would just adjust the elastic. But my daughter wears a size 5 and these are the measurements that we used so you can adjust accordingly.

**Next cut your strips for the ruffles. We did 7 1/2X60 and you cut 5 of these. For 5 tiers.

**Next I took the rectangle and sewed the two 12 inch wrong sides together. On the bottom of the skirt I did a finished hem. I fold and iron a half inch and then fold and iron another half inch and use a basic stitch to stitch it into place.

**for this skirt I used a thin elastic and I don't know why, it really doesn't matter. But I liked the look of it. On the top edge of the skirt sew a band. Again I fold and iron about a half inch over and then fold and iron again the width of the elastic that you use. Then I stitch around the band. Remember to leave about an inch opening to thread your elastic through. (but don't thread the elastic until the very end)

**Now for the ruffles. I tried to take pictures using just a piece of fabric to show you. So, you take your fabric and fold it lengthwise in half with wrong sides together. Like the pic.

** Then you fold about a half inch over and do a gathering stitch all across the top. We had a hard time using the basic straight gathering stitch because of the thickness so we ended up doing a large zigzag stitch. You could iron this half inch if you didn't feel comfortable just eyeing it but I just eye balled it and it seems like that would go a lot faster.

** After you have all 5 of the ruffles sewn with a gathering stitch you gather the 5 ruffles. You want to ruffle the ruffles to be 40 inches long. The whole cuteness of the original skirt we were copying was that the ruffles were not hugely ruffled. That is why we chose the length of 60 inches. If you want it more ruffly cut and gather your strips longer.

** Then you are going to start sewing the ruffles right on to the skirt. I sewed the first ruffle right under the bottom of the band and then each additional ruffle was sewn on 2 inches from the ruffle above it. A trick my ma taught me so that I didn't have to measure and pin every time was to get an index card and measure it to the length that you want and then use it as a guide while you are sewing. So I just kept my card right up to the top ruffle and then sewed the next ruffle on next to the card so that I knew it was even all the way around.

** After you get your ruffles on you are ready for your elastic. I suppose everyone is different with their elastics and how they do it! This is what I did though. My daughters waist is 22 inches so I cut my elastic to 19 inches. I don't know why but this size just seems to fit her. You can always cut and adjust your elastic if it is too big so you will have to play with it and see what works for you. I think the general rule of thumb is to take one inch off the measured waist but that always seems too big for my honey. Ok now it's time to thread your elastic, I always use a safety pin on one end and then just guide it through. When you reach the end you sew your two elastic ends together and sew your band closed and WALA! You have made the cutest frilliest little girl skirt ever! I LOVE this skirt I am totally thinking that I am going to make my girls pastel ones for their Easter clothes!! Thanks Laci, great idea! We'd love to see pics if you give this a try!
